There were 16 American Indian students enrolled in Kilgore ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 33.3% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Kilgore ISD schools welcomed 3,821 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.4% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Kilgore ISD roughly covers schools within Gregg County and has a main office in Kilgore.

Among the five schools in Kilgore ISD schools, Kilgore High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of nine students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
