Harmony ISD welcomed 1,009 students in 2022-23 school year

There were 1,009 students enrolled in Harmony ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 2.7% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.8% of them were girls, and 49.2% were boys.

Data also shows that the majority of students were white, representing 75.3% of the Harmony ISD total enrollment.

Harmony ISD roughly covers schools within Upshur County with its main office in Big Sandy.

Among the four schools in Harmony ISD, Harmony Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 313 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
