There were 254 students enrolled in Union Hill ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 10.6% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.2% of them were boys, and 48.8% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were white, representing 74.4% of the Union Hill ISD total enrollment.

Union Hill ISD roughly covers schools within Upshur County with its main office in Gilmer.

Among the two schools in Union Hill ISD, Union Hill High School recorded the highest enrollment of 143 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
