Gilmer ISD Education: 2,825 students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were 2,825 students enrolled in Gilmer ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 5.5% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.6% of them were boys, and 48.4% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were white, representing 57.3% of the Gilmer ISD total enrollment.

Gilmer ISD roughly covers schools within Upshur County with its main office in Gilmer.

Among the four schools in Gilmer ISD, Gilmer Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,179 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
