Enrollment at Carthage ISD schools decreased by 2% compared to previous school year

There were 2,621 students enrolled in Carthage ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 2% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 53.4% of them were boys, and 46.6% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were white, representing 56.2% of the Carthage ISD total enrollment.

Carthage ISD roughly covers schools within Panola County with its main office in Carthage.

Among the five schools in Carthage ISD, Carthage High School recorded the highest enrollment of 809 students in the 2022-23 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
