There were eight American Indian students enrolled in West Rusk County Consolidated ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 20% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that West Rusk County Consolidated ISD schools welcomed 1,038 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.8% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

West Rusk County Consolidated ISD roughly covers schools within Rusk County and has a main office in New London.

Among the five schools in West Rusk County Consolidated ISD schools, West Rusk High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2021-22 school year, with a total of six students.

Texas is found to be one of the least-educated states in the U.S. A study from WalletHub ranked Texas 41st out of 50 states in terms of the quality of the educational system and how successful students were.

More than 5.4 million students are enrolled in public schools across Texas. Nearly one million of them live in rural areas where options for local public schools are few and far between.
