The City of Marshall has begun development work on downtown redevelopment project.

According to a Dec. 28 social media post, the first phase of the redevelopment project will focus on renovating the 200 block of North Washington in Downtown Marshall, which has fallen into disrepair after years of neglect. Significant issues to be addressed include improper leveling, root damage from trees, and uneven or broken brick pavers which are hazardous to local residents and visitors.

The block is not compliant with the American Disabilities Act and improvements will include a concrete walkway featuring 3-foot red brick pavers at the curb to meet those guidelines.

The city will also remove overgrown trees, broken pavers, broken trash cans and cracked or discolored planters and install street lighting compliant with electrical code for Wonderland of Lights.

“The project was bid with a completion date of four months,” Marshall City Manager Mark Rohr said. “While we know there may be inconveniences, the City of Marshall is grateful for the support of the building owners and merchants of the 200 block of North Washington.”
