The Gladewater Economic Development Corp. (GEDCO) Utility Support and Promotional Advertising Program provided checks for financial assistance for small businesses that were affected by COVID-19.

According to a news release, GEDCO distributed 18 checks for a total of $9,000 of the $25,000 it had set aside for the program. Each check was worth $500. The company is now accepting applications for a second round of assistance, the news release stated.

Small businesses that are eligible are those within Gladewater city limits that have fewer than 30 full-time employees. The funds may be used for utility payments like water/sewer, gas, phone or internet service or electricity. Businesses that received funds from the first round of support are not eligible in the second round.

GEDCO is accepting applications until Oct. 31, and will prioritize businesses that have had to close, lay off employees or limit operations. Interested parties can apply by downloading the application and returning the completed form to GEDCO.
